If we reduce, there is less to reuse or recycle. Reusing an item implies that it remains in its original state, and does not require any new energy or material, unlike a recycled item.

Vinegar, with hydrogen peroxide kills bacteria more effectively than any commercial cleaner.
All you need to is two spray bottles, one filled with a three per cent solution of hydrogen peroxide, the other filled with white vinegar. Spray the area to be disinfected with one, and then the other. If you like, rinse with water. Studies have shown that it does not matter which of the two sprays you use first. This combination kills E. coli and salmonella more effectively than chlorine bleach, and can be used on both food and surfaces (including wood cutting boards) |

Take your own cloth bags shopping. One study showed that if every person in New York City would take just one less bag per week, the city's garbage could be reduced annually by 2,500 tons. |

Every ton of paper that is recycled saves 17 trees
The energy we save when we recycle one glass bottle is enough to light a light bulb for four hours
Each person throws away approximately four pounds of garbage every day.
One bus carries as many people as 40 cars!
More than 1/3 of all energy is used by people at home
Most families throw away about 88 pounds of plastic every year
We each use about 12,000 gallons of water every year
1/3 of all water is used to flush the toilet.
Approximately 5 million tons of oil produced in the world each ear ends up in the ocean.
The amount of wood and paper we throw away is enough to heat 50 million homes for 20 years |
